In Silicon Valley, our rock stars are different.

I think this is a very interesting creation because it has created strong polar feelings in me.

On the one hand, I "get" it. If I had a chance, I shake the hand of the co-inventor of USB and tell him, "Wow. You are AWESOME! Thank you so much for changing my world."

On the other hand, I've met Aaron Copeland, Joyce Carol Oates, John Irving, Michael Tilson Thomas, Rabbi Lawrence Kushner and several other people who have changed the world in so much more meaningful ways.

It's probably important that, sometimes, we're reminded that the small things in our lives that make a big difference, like USB, are by definition, small.

Hi, Brian!

Fortunately for us, there are no boundaries for excitement and admiration. In other words, being in awe of somebody does not take away the awe that you can be in for someone else.

In addition, it's my opinion that there is no such thing as a "small" contribution.

Thank you for dropping in.
